"In addition to my academic and professional counseling work, I have a variety of life experiences to draw from. Upon graduating high school in 1975, I went into nursing and was in and out of the field for 20 years. I was a military wife and after a divorce, I raised four children as a single parent. Two of those children I inherited and two I gave birth to. I am very familiar with the triumphs and tragedies of child rearing. Over my working career I've been employed in a variety of places such as hospitals, nursing homes, extended care facilities, Red Cross work, and in various schools in many different capacities with students of all ages. I have also done volunteer work in many different areas as well.
In addition to counseling adolescents in regards to a variety of issues, I have also worked with adults concerning depression, anxiety, conflict resolution, stress management, anger management, child rearing, relationship building, the grieving process, PTSD and other areas. My style of counseling leans heavily toward Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and while it is necessary to work on things that trigger us from our past, I also concentrate on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and assisting clients in looking toward the future. Upon request, I also do faith-based counseling.
I do take Maine Care clients. Also, clients are able to be reimbursed for my services through many of the private insurances, and of course clients may pay out of pocket if they do not wish to have a diagnosis on record. Professional references are available upon request." -Cynthia Thomas, LCSW
